BEAUTY AND THE HEATH

When an arson attack on our heathland takes hold, much damage is evident.

Normal controlled conservation is paramount to the structural environment, and the creatures that rely on the habitat.

I'm a city person but truly appreciate the natural beauty of the heath, which is closer to the environment than we realise.

Certain species of wildlife are already in decline such as the smooth snake, sand lizard, and the humble bumble bee, which rely on the bounty of rich plant sources.

Fires that are caused deliberately, and those by natural events, just exacerbate the problems further.

The wet marshy areas and the pond life that attract newts and frogs; low scrub that becomes a natural nesting area for ground nesting birds such as the woodlark and nightjar are being destroyed.

This precious environment needs reconstructing and conserving every time a fire becomes out of control.
